One Week Post Chicago

October 19, 2009

Well, it has been one week since my A and B goal defeat and am feeling pretty darn good physically and mentally. Have come to terms with how poorly things went and am getting fired up for the next marathon go around next spring!

The muscle soreness was gone after Tuesday, but did no running until Saturday when I went out for a 6 mile “inspired run” for Roy (a run being done on the RW Loop),  but realized pretty quickly that I wasn’t ready to be out running just yet. The quads, even though they were feeling fine before I started out, began to ache within a half mile and the heel was still feeling tender and the left shin was aching so decided to turn back home after just 2 miles for a total of 4 miles. I didn’t do any running on Sunday, just stayed off my feet and took it easy.

This morning I was feeling fine so decided to give it another try and it felt great. Did just 3 miles and the quads felt fine and just a little ache in the left shin, heel feeling slightly tender too.

So, I plan on slowly but surely picking things up again with 25 miles total planned for this week. Nothing special, just easy running until the heel and shin are better.

Congrats to everyone who raced this weekend!

Enjoy every step!

Al
